West Midlands-based charity, First Class Foundation has been honoured at a national awards ceremony that celebrates the achievements of Black professionals. The charity, which specialises in youth outreach and engagement, has been named as the winner of the Charitable, Voluntary and Social Change category at the inaugural Evensfields Black Talent Awards at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium. The award recognises First Class Foundation’s contribution to supporting young people and families in some of the most deprived communities in the West Midlands. First Class Foundation delivers youth offending services across the region, including projects focused on reducing serious youth violence, such as its acclaimed Kitchen Table Talks service. It was also consulted by Dr Justin Varney, head of public health at Birmingham City Council, regarding the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on BAME communities. Earlier this year, the charity launched the second phase of a West Midlands Combined Authority outreach programme to raise young people’s awareness of available work, training and education opportunities.

The black-tie event is organised by Evenfields Careers and recognises individuals and employers in the public and private sectors, including senior leaders, rising stars and solopreneurs.

The sold out award ceremony was hosted by award-winning journalist and broadcaster, Maverine Cole and actor, writer and comedian, Babatunde Aleshe. Music and entertainment was provided by The Notebenders Big Band, multi-genre violinist, J Hope and international recording artist, Namywa.
