What is Education 4 Life?

This could be over 12 weeks fitting into a complete term, you have the freedom to choose how long you would like the programme to last.

The programme is supplied in a ready to go format, complete with one of our licensed facilitators delivering the sessions, saving you time on delivery, assessment and evaluation as this is all included in the programme.

What does this programme do?

Aims of Education 4 Life

To bridge the gap between the taught curriculum from ks3-4 and every day issues young people face today, we understand that young people must be prepared to face the challenges of the new world they will one day enter.

We see it as a priority to not only equip them with academic qualifications, but also to challenge, inspire and motivate them to understand the reality of life outside of the classroom. Today we have access to a wealth of information at the tap of a device, Education 4 Life will cause young people to reflect on areas they may not be familiar with allowing them to learn in a safe, practical and innovative environment.

Programme Objectives

How it works

Session Titles

  • Who do you think you are?
Strengths and weaknesses, we are not all perfect. You need to know who you are and what you are good at, take an inventory of your life.
  • Take a deeper look
What does it really take to be a great success, to who much is given, much is required. Looking at movers and shakers today and what they did to get to where they are today. looking at what it is going to take for them to be successful in their own lives and the skills required.
  • I need more
Money management is a discipline, easy come, easy go! Financial planning, investment and money management.
  • Mastering your emotions- don’t believe the hype
We are all different and things will affect us each in their own way, it is important not to let your emotions get out of control. Looking into the feelings and emotions that young people feel daily, in school, amongst peers, at home with parents, elders and teachers.
  • Aspire to inspire
Let’s see what you are really made of! Can you be all that you want to be? The proof is in the pudding, showcase your talents under the scrutiny of the real world. Young people will present themselves to their peers as their future self, using posters, business cards and a strategy for their future self.
  • The follow up
How do you treat people after they have given you what you want? Do you have an attitude of gratitude? We look at the type of attitudes need to be successful in the future.
  • Let’s strike a balance
You cannot be everywhere and doing everything all at the same time! Understand your limits and learn strategies to balance, work rest and play
  • Review
Look at learning throughout the journey so far and review learning and impact.
  • Now and then
Looking at areas in life where you have overcome a challenge or obstacle, understanding what had to be done to overcome. Comparing now and then, if you don’t know where you came from, how will you know where you are going? Have you changed for the better or not?
  • Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are
Whoever you choose as friends will determine how far you go, do you know that Eagles saw but chickens cannot fly? What would you prefer to be a chicken or eagle? Friendships have a big impact on our lives and can influence the decisions we make.
  • Nearly there
This session covers what has been taught over the previous weeks, we look at the set of goals we aim to achieve, encouraging them to dream big and think about what they really want to see in their lives.
  • Times up!

“Thank you so much for coming to Holyhead School – it was absolutely amazing! This workshop gave our students the opportunity to reflect and value themselves and their unique abilities in addition to recognising the value of others. As a facilitator you really had the student’s attention from the beginning with a balanced mix of humour and reality – your story is truly one to be proud of. Students really enjoyed the workshop and connected with the activities. I would 100% recommend 1st Class Legacy and I will definitely be booking you again.

What is Kitchen Table Talks?

Introduction

At Kitchen Table Talks we encourage communication of all kinds! Random topics, political, social even comical. We believe that having a safe and open platform for you to share will support growth and confidence. So, come on let’s talk.

There is a saying that goes a little something like this. The kitchen is the heart of the home and is where 98% of the time spent in our homes, this rings true. The warmth from the stove, the aromas of

different spices, freshly brewed coffee or even burnt toast… all these subtle smells always draw the crowds, and this is when family discussions take place.

The kitchen is a neutral setting where everyone feels comfortable. Well KTT can replicate that same environment where ladies feel safe and at home. When individuals feel relaxed and are in trustworthy surroundings, the likelihood of them opening up increases. So, couple the environment with a hot drink and more importantly CAKE you now not only have a safe setting but a much more inviting and fun one too!

As the years go on it is evident that individuals are more exposed ‘to life’ at an earlier age! The access to information is readily available at their fingertips, but are they equipped to deal with challenges when they arise? With ever growing pressures in the home and daily activities, daily ‘Kitchen Table Talks’ go amiss. The art of collective talking has diminished, whilst the focus is solely on mobile devices.

Voices are now unheard as social media is screaming out whilst drowning out the cries of the troubled and barricading issues that could shape our life.

So, we talk about what every female would be interested in and incorporate wisdom and facts to ensure that ladies receive a holistic view. Bringing back the voice of young females is essential to ensure they know that they are unique and loved. Reminding them that they do not have to follow the beat of societies drum, leading them out of the Kitchen through the front door to an outstanding life!

What does this programme do?

A Very Flexible Solution

Using unorthodox locations and unusual meeting times KTT are usually delivered outside of the typical environments. Each session lasts approximately 2 hours but can be tailored to suit the audience of those in attendance. The true beauty of Kitchen Table Talks is that it can be picked up and delivered anywhere, using our sensitively designed toolkit you can be trained in delivering the talks, or invest in one of our licensed facilitators to deliver the talks on your behalf.

Talks can be designed for your audience, if there is a conversation that you would like to facilitate we are able to create a bespoke toolkit, just for you.

The peer to peer engagement was helpful to understand and relate to the information that was shared. I felt that hearing each other’s stories helped us to relate and thus be able to apply the learning to our own lives. It was easy to be very honest, the environment felt safe.

This experience caused me to reflect on how they feel about issues discussed.

Supporting Evidence

We are proud that the work we have done has been independently evaluated by the Centre for Mental Health. This has led to the legacy phase of the programme being supported again by Mind to see Street Smart to Business Start support 8 YACM men to apply for a grant to start their own enterprise project. Out of those 8, 7 were given an investment to create a product or service that can be used to support individuals to have better mental health resilience.

How it works

What’s Next??

In addition to the open event, Street Smart to Business Start programmes includes three monthly forums where we will offer to participants, business support and mentoring to check how business plans are developing.

The street smart to business start product has been developed, to engage and connect with young people who through their life experience have gained many transferrable skills that they may not even realise.

The product aims to cultivate some of the leadership and business principles that we believe many young people potentially possess but because of lack of mentoring support and advice, they don’t know how to translate, the skills they may have gained from the street into the world of business and entrepreneurship.

We do not condone or support many activities that young people on the streets get involved with to survive, but we have identified through our many years of youth engagement, that there are a number of skills that young people have learnt through survival on the street, it is our ambition through this product to create a psychologically informed space with relatable role models, that will help them to see the possibilities and the opportunities that business enterprise can provide for them.

Because of this we sensitively and specifically recruit relatable role models that have overcome significant adversity and now use enterprise to live a better life. They both facilitate and teach on the programme.

Forums

Each forum is carried out in a culturally appropriate and psychologically informed space

1) Goal setting and business planning
2) How to overcome adversity
